How to choose the right swing set (without regretting it)

All swing sets look fun in photos. The difference is how they work in your backyard, with your kids, over the next few years. Here’s what actually matters.

1. Backyard size (this catches people out)

You don’t need a massive yard — but you do need the right layout. Width and clearance matter more than height, especially once kids start swinging properly. Always allow extra space around the swing arc so it’s safe and comfortable to use.

2. One kid or siblings?

Single swings are fine… until someone else wants a turn. If you’ve got siblings (or regular playdates), look for double swings or sets with add-ons. It saves arguments and means the swing set actually gets used every day.

3. Age range & how long it’ll last
