Cornhole Games for Backyard Competition

Cornhole, better known in Australia as bean bag toss or bag toss, is a competitive throwing game. Two boards are set up 8.23m apart and players take turns tossing bean bags to score, 3 points through the hole and 1 on the board. It is genuinely skill-based, and because accuracy beats strength a child can beat an adult, which is what keeps it going all afternoon.

This collection includes a standard set, a regulation tournament size option, and the Cornhole Pro by Jumbo Games, built to official American Cornhole Association specifications at 122cm x 61cm with a 15cm hole. All are safety tested to Australian and New Zealand standards. Product listings include board and bag details to help you compare before choosing.

Regulation Tournament Size Cornhole Game

Built to regulation size for players wanting to practise or compete at a more serious level.

How to Play

Cornhole, or bean bag toss as most Australians know it, is played with two boards set 8.23m apart, front edge to front edge, facing each other. Each side throws four bags per round, underarm and alternating. A bag through the hole scores 3 points and a bag resting on the board scores 1.

The part people get wrong is cancellation scoring. Only one side scores each round: you subtract the lower round total from the higher, and only the difference is awarded. If red scores 5 and blue scores 3, red gets 2 and blue gets nothing. First to reach or pass 21 at the end of a round wins. Our full How to Play Cornhole guide covers fouls, doubles and the common variations, and comes with a free printable score sheet.

Before You Buy

  • Standard vs tournament size: choose based on whether you want casual play or a more competitive setup. Regulation is 122cm x 61cm with a 15cm hole.
  • Space needed: boards sit 8.23m apart, and with throwing room behind each one you want roughly 12 to 13m of clear length.
  • Bags included: a proper game needs eight, four a side in two colours. Corn or resin fill slides towards the hole; sand and powder fills land flat.
  • Weather care: bring boards undercover when not in use to help them last longer.
  • Safety tested: both sets are tested to Australian and New Zealand toy safety standards.
  • Not sure which? Our bean bag toss buying guide compares Australian sets on size, bags and build.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you score in cornhole?

A bag through the hole scores 3 points and a bag landing on the board scores 1. Scoring is by cancellation, so you subtract the lower round total from the higher and only the difference is awarded. The first side to reach or pass 21 at the end of a round wins.

How far apart should the boards be?

8.23m, measured front edge to front edge. For juniors and casual play, bring them in to between 3.6m and 4.5m. Allow around 12 to 13m of total length once you add throwing room behind each board.

Is cornhole the same as bean bag toss?

Yes. Cornhole is the official name used by leagues and manufacturers, and bean bag toss or bag toss is how most Australians describe it. You will also hear sack toss and corn toss. Same game, same rules. We covered every name in what the bean bag toss game is actually called.

What size is a regulation board?

122cm x 61cm, with a 15cm hole centred 23cm from the top edge. The board sits 7.6cm off the ground at the front and rises to 30.5cm at the back. Many sets sold in Australia are smaller than this and are designed as children's toys.

What age is cornhole suitable for?

Cornhole suits a wide age range, from kids through to adults, given the simple rules and genuine throwing skill involved. Move the boards closer together for younger players and keep the scoring the same, so everyone plays the same game.

Can these be left outside permanently?

We recommend bringing boards undercover when not in use, to help them last longer.
