Regulation Size

Regulation size, down to the hole

Each board measures 122cm by 61cm with a 15cm flight-path hole, which is the official American Cornhole Association standard.

Regulation size matters more than it sounds. Board length sets the arc you throw and hole size decides whether a good shot gets rewarded or a lucky one does. Practise at home on the right dimensions and the same throw works at a tournament.

The Surface

Smooth sanded plywood, splinter-free

The playing surface is smooth sanded plywood with rounded corners and a splinter-free finish. The Jumbo Games logo is lasered into the surface rather than stuck on top of it, so there is nothing to peel and nothing to catch a bag on its way down.

A leg brace low enough to stop bags disappearing

Turn a board over and you can see how it is put together. A low-positioned leg brace stabilises the legs and closes off the gap that bags otherwise slide straight through, which is the difference between a bag you can count and one that ends up somewhere under the board.

The Frame

A double cross support, so the board does not bounce

The structure is reinforced rather than standard. A double cross support runs beneath each board to eliminate board bounce, so a bag that lands well stays where it lands instead of hopping off.

The frames are pocket-holed, which keeps every fixing hidden beneath the surface. The playing area stays completely hardware-free. Jumbo Games put a 5-year warranty behind it, which is the clearest sign a maker trusts its own construction.

The Edges

Every corner rounded and hand-sanded

Every edge and corner is rounded and hand-sanded. It looks after the bags, which take a beating on a squared-off board, and it looks after the hands of whoever is carrying it.

The Slope

7.6cm at the front, 30.5cm at the back

Seen side on, the shape of the game becomes obvious. The board sits 7.6cm off the ground at the front and rises to 30.5cm at the back. That angle is what feeds a well-thrown bag down towards the hole rather than stopping it dead.

The Legs

Solid pine, double-wide, folded flat in seconds

The legs are solid pine and double-wide, precision-cut to sit flush to the ground and connected to the leg brace, so the board does not rock mid-round on an uneven lawn. When you are finished they fold flat against the underside of each board.

You get eight ACA-compliant bags, four in each colour, so two players or two pairs can start straight away. Each one is 15cm square and weighs between 425 and 454 grams. There is no separate set to buy before you can play a proper game.

Two colours, four bags each, which is all cancellation scoring asks for. Nobody has to remember whose bag is whose at the far end of the lawn, and a round can be counted from where you are standing.

The Fill

Corn-filled, for a consistent slide and grip

The bags are filled with corn in the traditional way. Corn settles as the bag lands, so it grips where you want it to hold and slides where you want it to travel, and it does the same thing throw after throw.

Take It With You

The whole set travels as one piece of luggage

The padded carry bag holds both boards, all eight bags and the rules card together, so the set moves as one thing rather than an armful of loose pieces. The park, the beach, a tournament, a grassy weekend hangout at someone else's place.

How it plays, and how much room you need

The boards face each other 8.23 metres, or 27 feet, apart, measured front edge to front edge. Each team throws four bags per round, underarm, alternating with the other side. A bag that finishes on the board is one point. A bag through the hole is three.

Scoring runs on cancellation, so you take your round total and subtract your opponent's, and only the difference goes on the scoreboard. Games stay close, one three-pointer late on can swing an afternoon, and the first team to 21 wins. The rules card in the box covers all of it.

For space, add throwing room behind each board and you want roughly twelve to thirteen metres of clear length. Width matters far less. Most backyards take that along the longest line of the lawn; if yours will not, shorten the gap.
